Carlos De Castro , full name Carlos Enrique De Castro Storace , (born April 19, 1979 in Montevideo , † February 16, 2015 in Mérida , Venezuela ) was a Uruguayan football player who worked for clubs from Uruguay, Switzerland and Chile during his career , Bolivia, Greece, Venezuela, Guatemala and Peru.

Career

The 1.85 meter tall defensive player De Castro began his professional career in the 2000 and 2001 seasons as a player for the then second division Miramar Misiones, based in Montevideo . In the 2001/02 season he played seven league games for FC Luzern in Switzerland . From the Apertura 2002 to the Apertura 2006 he was again part of the squad of the Miramar Misiones club, which had been in the Primera División since its promotion at the end of 2002 . In the second division season of 2002 he had twelve (no goal) in the first division season of 2003 24 (two goals) league appearances.

In 2007 a career station followed in Chile at Deportes Melipilla . He was used 34 times (one goal) that year in the league. In 2008 he played 13 league matches (no goal) at Club San José from Bolivia . In the 2008/09 season he was once (no goal) at the Greek club Thrasyvoulos Fylis . During the Clausura 2009 he strengthened his former club Miramar Misiones and ran nine times (one goal) in the Segunda División . He then moved to Venezuela in 2009 to Estudiantes de Mérida and completed 30 games (two goals) in the Primera División in the 2009/10 season . This was followed by an engagement at Club Xelajú MC in Guatemala in Apertura 2010 , where the statistics show him 19 league appearances (no goal).

His next employer from the beginning of 2011 was Universidad César Vallejo from Peru . By the end of the year he was the Peruvians 26 times (one goal) in the Primera División and twice (no goal) in the Copa Sudamericana . From January 2012, he was again involved with Estudiantes de Mérida. 80 league games and seven goals have been recorded for him by the end of the 2013/14 season (2011/12: 17 games / 1 goal; 2012/13: 33/3; 2013/14: 30/3). In the 2014/15 season he was used 19 times (one goal) in the top Venezuelan league. De Castro was the team captain of the Venezuelan team.

On January 31, 2015, he was one of six players in his team who were injured in a traffic accident with the team bus on the José Antonio Páez motorway while driving to the away game against Deportivo Lara in San Felipe . In doing so, he broke his neck. The other injured teammates were Ángel Hernández , Manuel Rodríguez , Ángel Ojeda , Wislintos Renteria and Alejandro Araque . De Castro died on February 16, 2015 in the Centro Clínico of Mérida , after complications had arisen as a result of an operation carried out on February 1, 2015 due to this fracture or according to other sources due to a spinal cord injury and initially stable health. Estudiantes club president Frank Castillo announced the following day that the shirt number 19 worn by De Castro would no longer be awarded. It was also announced that De Castro's body would be transferred to his Uruguayan homeland and that he would receive a Christian burial there.
