Carnal Tomb is a Berlin death metal band that was founded in 2014.

history

The band, named after the dismember song of the same name , was founded in 2014 as a duo consisting of the bassist and singer Yves "Corpse Ripper" Metze and the singer and guitarist Marc "Cryptic Tormentor" Strobel. After two demos had been released, the drummer Daniel “Vomitchrist” Sturm and the guitarist Marius “Lobotomizer” Trappe joined them. In 2016 the debut album Rotten Remains followed via Memento Mori Records . After Trappe left the line-up the following year, he was replaced by Toni "Goat Eviscerator" Thomas. Various appearances followed and in 2018 a tour through Europe together with Sentient Horror . In 2019 the album Abhorrent Veneration was released on Testimony Records , which was recorded and mixed in the Berlin Englsound Studios under the direction of Tobias Engl and mastered by Laurent Teubl in the Cologne Sculpt Sound Studios . In the same year the band was represented live at the Party.San , among others .

style

Andreas Schiffmann from musikreviews.de wrote in his review of Rotten Remains that you can hear Extreme Metal , mainly Death Metal, in which "all genre registers" are pulled. This will start the "horror intro", proceed to " Kerry King Suspicion (oblique) guitar solos until virtually faithful Boss HM - Distortion -Sound" which especially for Stockholm was style icon band. The speed of the songs ranges from “mid-tempo grooves ” to “classic hops”. The catchy melodies in the choruses would also be reminiscent of Scandinavian groups. Furthermore, the band makes use of breaks in their songs . Some of the more "intricately structured" songs would be reminiscent of groups like Abhorrence and Demigod . Dominik Winter from Metal Hammer found that Abhorrent Veneration contains classic Death Metal with a love for the Boss HM-2 pedal. The band is, like on its predecessor, not very innovative, but varied. "(Swedish) riffs, infernal beatings, thick grooves, morbid solos and nasty grunts " can be heard. Occasionally there are also slight influences from Funeral Doom and isolated parallels to Neurosis . Overall, the album is suitable for fans of Grave , Vomitory , Bloodbath and Vallenfyre . Patrick Schmidt from Rock Hard also reviewed the album and described the Death Metal it contained as “ old-school and hung over”, with influences from Autopsy , Grave, Entombed and Pungent Stench being audible. The speed of the songs is variable, but the group never loses control. Three editions later, Sebastian Schilling wrote that the band played classic Swedish-style death metal. In an interview with him, Marc Strobel stated that an independent sound is important to him. In addition, he attaches importance to the riffs, which should "go in the ear" and "push", whereby he is "no friend of any clinking or tinkling". The aim of the band is to play Death Metal in the style of Dismember .
