The Carnival Fantasy (until 2007 only Fantasy ) was a cruise ship put into service in 1990 , which was last used by Carnival Cruise Line . It is the lead ship of the eight-unit Fantasy class .

The Carnival Fantasy was built as a Fantasy at Kvaerner Masa-Yards in Helsinki and launched on March 1st, 1989. Godmother was Tellervo Koivisto, wife of the then President of Finland Mauno Koivisto . In March 1990 the ship was put into service. The Fantasy was the first of a total of eight identical units of the Fantasy class that were put into service until 1998.

In the first years of service, the Fantasy was used from Miami for cruises to the Caribbean . In 1993 the ship was relocated to Port Canaveral as one of the first large cruise ships .

In the fall of 2006, the Fantasy was relocated to New Orleans just a few months after Hurricane Katrina , from where it was used for cruises to Mexico .

In 2007 the ship was renamed Carnival Fantasy and modernized and rebuilt in 2008. In September 2009, the Carnival Fantasy was relocated to Mobile to replace the decommissioned Holiday .

In 2016, the Carnival Fantasy, the oldest ship of Carnival Cruises, was modernized again and provided with new restaurants and attractions.

In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic , Carnival Cruise Line sold the 30-year-old ship in July 2020. The buyer was a scrapping yard in Aliağa . On July 29, 2020, the Carnival Fantasy was put on the beach for demolition.

The Carnival Fantasy was most recently the oldest ship in the Carnival Cruises fleet.

Others

One of the restaurants on board the Carnival Sensation , which also belongs to the Fantasy class, is named after the Carnival Fantasy . A model of the ship is in the entrance area of ​​the restaurant.
