Carsten Bengs (born July 7, 1974 in Heppenheim ) is a German handball trainer and former handball player who was mostly used on the left wing .

Career

The 1.93 m tall right-hander started at VfL Heppenheim at the age of six and later played for TuS Eintracht Wiesbaden in the 2nd handball league . In 1995 he moved to the handball Bundesliga for SG Wallau / Massenheim , but could not build on the successful period of the previous years with the club. In the Bundesliga they still occupied one of the top places, but the titles did not materialize. In the 1997/98 Euro City Cup he was defeated by TuS Nettelstedt in the semifinals (30:30, 22:24). In 1999/2000 he failed in the same competition in the round of 16 to Pfadi Winterthur (24:26, 26:29). In the DHB-Pokal 1999/2000 he reached the final four , but was eliminated against THW Kiel with 27:28 after extra time. In the 2001/02 EHF Cup , THW was also the winner in the semifinals (27:32, 32:31). Although his contract lasted until 2006, the then captain was kicked out of the squad by manager Bülent Aksen in 2004 . He then joined TSG Groß-Bieberau . After a year he signed with the southern second division TSG Münster . Just two years after leaving Wallau, the native Heppenheimer returned as a player-coach. After Bengs had led the team in the 2nd Bundesliga South, he was dismissed as a coach in November 2007. He then coached TV Breckenheim and the youth Bundesliga team of TuS Griesheim . From 2012 he also headed the regional league team in Griesheim. In the 2013/14 season, Bengs and Griesheim made it to the Hessian handball league on the 23rd matchday (out of 26) . On December 2, 2014, Bengs surprisingly announced his resignation as coach of TuS Griesheim. At this point Griesheim was second to last in the table and Bengs “couldn't guarantee those in charge that we would stay up under my leadership. It just didn't work out the way I had imagined it last. ”For the 2019/20 season he took over the youth team from SV Erbach.

Carsten Bengs played 16 international matches for the German junior national team .
