The Cefas Endeavor is a British research vessel operated by the Center for Environment, Fisheries & Aquaculture Science (Cefas). The ship is managed by P&O Maritime. The ship is mainly used in the waters around the British Isles in the North Sea , the English Channel and the Irish Sea for fisheries research as well as marine research and surveying.

history

The ship was built under construction number 712 at Ferguson Shipbuilders in Port Glasgow . The completion took place in March 2003. The ship was put into service in April 2003.

Technical data and equipment

The propulsion of the ship takes place diesel electrically by two Ansaldo electric motors, each with 1,150  kW power , responsive to a fixed propeller act. The power supply on board is provided by three generator sets. The generators are of three Wärtsilä - diesel engines (type: 6L20) driven with 1,000 kW of power. Furthermore, a Cummins diesel engine was installed to drive the harbor generator. The apparent power of the generator is 250  kVA .

The bow thruster is a 360 degree controllable water jet drive with 820 kW of power. In addition, the ship has a 380 kW stern thruster with propeller. The ship is equipped with a dynamic positioning system.

At the stern of the ship there is a swiveling stern boom that can lift 25 t. Another swiveling hoist with a capacity of 7.5 t is located on the starboard side behind the superstructure . In addition, the ship is equipped with three cranes , each of which can lift 35 t, of which one is in the fore section and two in the aft section. On the port side, two open work boats are carried behind the superstructures, which can be launched and retrieved with the help of appropriate davits . The ship is also equipped with various winches in the aft section .

The ship has six decks. There are several laboratories on board, including one wet and three dry laboratories. On the 310 m² working deck behind the superstructures there are spaces for containers , so that additional laboratories in the form of laboratory containers can be available depending on the purpose. The ship is equipped with various echo sounders and sonar systems and equipped for the use of ROV .

The hull of the ship is reinforced with ice ( ice class 1D). There is space on board for 35 people, 17 crew members and 18 scientists. 14 single cabins and two double cabins are available for the scientists. The ship can stay at sea for over 30 days. It fulfills the requirements of the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea with regard to the emission of underwater noise (ICES 209).
