Centro Médico La Paz in Bata

The Centro Médico La Paz is a hospital in Bata , Equatorial Guinea .

Background and task

The house was built by an Israeli architectural firm on behalf of the government of Equatorial Guinea. In awarding the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations which had FIFA requires the construction of a hospital. In addition, the 17th African Union Summit was due to take place in Malabo in July 2011 . The house was opened with 120 beds in October 2007 under Israeli management (IMS Global). As a private and reference clinic, it is not open to the general public; Dentistry , pediatrics and obstetrics are extremely cheap for locals. The government pays for all emergencies and those patients referred by the Public Hospital General in Bata or other hospitals. A helicopter landing pad with night signs enables patient transports from other hospitals (especially in Malabo), the Guinean islands and not least from the drilling platforms in the Gulf of Guinea .

particularities

Surroundings

Climate, location and tropical diseases, African logistics and European exports require a lot of improvisation and independence. Neither morphine nor opioids are used in La Paz . But the ketamine consumption is ten times higher than in European houses. The systematic tetanus vaccination is very successful for all accident victims. With 1,200 vaccinations per month, the number of infected patients (previously one per week) has been significantly reduced. The infant mortality rate is around ten times lower than elsewhere in the country. Doctors with experience in the tropics from all over the world have enabled differentiated treatment of endemic malaria according to their own protocols, which takes into account resistances and age groups. Tropical pyomyositis is more common than leprosy or rabies . About a thousand patients are treated in the polyclinic every month. The most common reasons for admission are malaria and broken bones .

staff

The house is under Israeli management. The takeover by the Marseille-Kliniken (2010) requested by the President of Equatorial Guinea had failed. In October 2010, of the 390 employees, 282 were Guineans and 108 were expatriates , most of them from Israel, Russia and South America. Renowned Israeli houses like Hadassah , Chaim Sheba and Assaf Harofeh send experienced professionals. Some Guinean doctors are residents in the 1st or 2nd year of further training. With the nursing school, the house participates in the training of local nursing staff.
