Chūō ( Japanese 中央 市 , -shi , literally: central city ) is a city in Yamanashi Prefecture in Japan .

Chūō is east of Minami-Alps and west of Kōfu .

history

Chūō was founded on February 2, 2006 from the former communities Tamaho ( 玉 穂 町 , -chō ) and Tatomi ( 田 富 町 , -chō ) of the district of Nakakoma , as well as the village of Toyotomi ( 豊 富 村 , -mura ) of the district of Higashi-Yatsushiro .
