Chan Ming Tai Theophilus ( Chinese  陳銘 泰  /  陈铭 泰 , Pinyin Chén Míngtài , Jyutping Can 4 Ming 4 taai 3 , born January 30, 1995 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese long jumper who competes internationally for Hong Kong. In addition to the long jump, he also competes in the 4 x 100 meter relay.

Athletic career

Chan Ming Tai gained his first experience in international competitions at the 2013 Asian Championships in Pune , where he was eliminated with 7.13 m in qualification. He was then at the East Asian Games in Tianjin with 7.38 m sixth. The following year he won at the Junior Asian Championships in Taipei with 7.70 m, the silver medal behind the Chinese Lin Qing . He qualified for the Junior World Championships in Eugene , where he was eliminated with 7.27 m in qualification. At the end of September he first took part in the Asian Games in Incheon , South Korea , where he was fifth with 7.73 m. In 2015 he reached ninth place with 7.44 m at the Asian Championships in Wuhan and fourth at the Summer Universiade in Gwangju with 7.89 m. At the Indoor Asian Championships in Doha 2016, he won the bronze medal with 7.85 m. During the outdoor season he qualified for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro , where he was eliminated with 7.79 m in qualification .

In 2017 he took part in the Asian Championships in Bhubaneswar and won the silver medal behind the Chinese Huang Changzhou with 8.03 m . He then reached eleventh place with 7.44 m at the Student World Games in Taipei. At the beginning of September he won the bronze medal behind the Vietnamese Nguyialn Ti in Trọng and Amila Wijayalath Pedige from Sri Lanka with 7.44 m at the Asian Indoor & Martial Arts Games in Ashgabat . In 2018 he again took part in the Asian Games in Jakarta , where he was eliminated with 7.11 m in qualification and finished seventh with the Hong Kong 4 x 100 meter relay in 39.48 s. Even at the Asian Championships in Doha 2019, he could not qualify for the final with a jump to 7.31 m.

In 2017 and 2019, Chan became the Hong Kong champion in the long jump. He is a student at Hong Kong University .
