Chandler or Chandler City is a small town in Lincoln County in the middle of the US state Oklahoma . In Chandler is the county seat of Lincoln County. The city is located in the southern outer area of ​​the Oklahoma City Metropolitan Area , the metropolitan area around Oklahoma's capital, Oklahoma City .

Chandler is almost exactly in the geometric center of Lincoln County at the intersection of Interstate 44 and Oklahoma State Route 18 . Interstate 44 is just south of the city, so Chandler is about a 45-minute drive from Oklahoma City. Chandler is located between Warwick and Davenport almost exactly halfway along the famous Route 66 , which runs parallel to I-44.

The St. Louis and Oklahoma City Railroad , which was opened in 1898 and later became part of the St. Louis and San Francisco Railway , runs through the city . Today, Chandler is no longer served by trains and buses. In addition to road links , Chandler Municipal Airport is an important hub for local traffic.

Two reservoirs have been built not far northwest of the city. The smaller Chandler Lake , created in 1954 by the damming of Bellcalf Creek, is about two kilometers long and extends in a north-south direction. Bell Cow Lake, which is almost twice as large, is located a little further to the west and runs in a northwest-southeast direction; it was created by the damming of Otoe Creek and North Bellcow Creek. The 2000 census counted 2842 residents, in 2006 the population had risen to 2872. At the 2000 census, nearly 80% of the population were white , just under 10% were African-Americans, and nearly 6% were American Indians . history

Before the city was founded, the area was inhabited by Indians of the Sauk and Fox , who settled here after their expulsion from the area around the Saint Lawrence River . The steep hill provided for the new town named after the assistant secretary of the Home Office, George Chandler, was not yet completely surveyed on the date of the Oklahoma Land Run in 1891, so a separate land run was held for the city area a week later.

The new city was badly hit by a tornado on March 30, 1897 that almost destroyed Chandler, killing 19 and injuring many others. The city was rebuilt with better building materials and houses made of brick and natural stone.

The St. Louis and Oklahoma City Railroad , opened in 1898, made it possible to transport goods on a larger scale. Chandler mainly exported cotton and locally made bricks. The city became famous for its exports of pecans , which led the Oklahoma government to declare the city the "World Pecan Capital" in 1946.

Chandler took part in the oil boom in Oklahoma only to a small extent and lived mainly from agriculture.
