Career

Charles Bertrand began his career as a hockey player in his French homeland in the junior division of the Dragons de Rouen , where he was active until 2007. He then played for two years for the U18 juniors of the Slovakian club HC Dukla Trenčín , before finishing the 2008/09 season with the U20 juniors of EC Red Bull Salzburg in Austria. From 2009 to 2011, the winger played for Lukko Rauma's U20 juniors in Finland. In the 2010/11 season he also made his debut for the professional team of Lukko Rauma in the Liiga and finished third with the team in the playoffs. In addition, he ran on as a loan player in the second-rate Mestis for Hokki Kajaani .

From the 2011/12 season , Bertrand was a regular in Lukko Rauma's professional squad and completed 126 SM-liiga games for Lukko by 2013. He then moved to TPS Turku within the top Finnish league . In November 2013 he was loaned to Färjestad BK in the highest Swedish league, the Svenska Hockeyligan . There his trial contract was extended after three weeks. Between 2014 and 2016 he played again in the Liiga at Vaasan Sport before he moved to Porin Ässät for the 2016/17 season and to Oulun Kärpät a year later .

With Kärpät he won the Finnish championship in April 2018 . In addition, he was appointed to the Liiga All-Star Team and awarded the Aarne Honkavaara Trophy (best goalscorer) and the Matti Keinonen Trophy . The performances shown made other clubs aware of Bertrand and Bertrand decided (only 1 day after winning the championship) for a contract with HK Sibir Novosibirsk from the Continental Hockey League . This was followed by an engagement in Switzerland from November 2018 when Bertrand signed a contract with Friborg-Gottéron . There he ended the 2018/19 season and then returned to Finland and subsequently joined Tappara .
