Charles T. Stepule (born November 1, 1911 in Wallingford , Connecticut , † November 3, 2006 in Gloucester , Massachusetts ) was an American painter .

Career

Charles T. Stepule, son of Mary Yokim and Charles Stepule (1876-1953), was born in 1911 in New Haven County . His childhood was overshadowed by the First World War and the following years by the Great Depression . Further details about his youth are not known. Stepule studied at the National Academy of Design in New York City , the Art Students League in New London (Connecticut), the Art Students League of New York and in various studios in Great Britain , France , Spain and Italy .

After the 1940 census , he lived in Portland, Connecticut during this time . He later served in the US Army during World War II . He was taken prisoner of war.

Stepule lived in Hartford (Connecticut) for a long time . During this time he taught at the East Hartford Art League . In the 1940s and 1950s he made frequent vacations in Florida , where he also created numerous works. In 1958 he founded the oldest gallery , The Charles T. Stepule Gallery, on Bearskin Neck, part of Rockport, Massachusetts. He worked as a painter for 70 years. In many of his works he chose motifs from New England . In this context he is known for his harbor scenes of Gloucester and Rockport. He died in 2006 at the Seacoast Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Gloucester.
