Dragon Hunters (Original title: Chasseurs de dragons ) is a European 3D - computer animation film from 2008, based on an eponymous television series ( Dragon Hunters - Dragon Hunters ). It is a co-production of the French production company Futurikon with the animation studios Mac Guff from France, Trixter from Germany and Luxanimation from Luxembourg as well as the German marketing company Universum Film. The film tells the story behind the television series, when the two budding dragon hunters Gwizdo and Lian Chu were given the task of hunt down the terrible and legendary eater of the world.

action

Like the TV series, the film is set in a fantastic world full of small floating islands that are terrorized by dragons. Two drifters, the clever but not very courageous Gwizdo and the intrepid but peaceful Lian Chu, who grew up together in an orphanage, try more badly than right to assert themselves as a dragon hunter in this world together with their companion, the little blue dragon Hector .

Her dream of having her own small farm has therefore so far failed because of the small change she needs. While rescuing the orphan girl Zoe, they learn from her uncle, the old and blind lord of the castle, Lord Arnold, who has offered a reward for killing the so-called eater of the world. This is a terrible, giant dragon that sleeps at the end of the world, but wakes up every 20 moons and then leaves a trail of devastation before it goes back to rest. After all the knights whom the lord has entrusted with this mission have either died or gone mad, there is little choice but to rely on the help of the two. Zoe, who believes she recognizes the heroes of her dreams in the dragon hunters, joins the strange expedition into the unknown behind her uncle's back and against the will of Gwizdo. On the way they roam dark forests, abandoned cities and wondrous water lily fields and encounter many dangers, such as the red pumpkin kite or an armada of fog bombers. It also turns out that the Eater of the World was responsible for the destruction of Lian Chu's home village, which made him an orphan. When all the signs of the giant dragon's return appear (the collapsing battlements, the burned knights, the red cloud, the floating bridges, the sinking villages and the talking animals), the quarrels in the small group and even Gwizdo's mind increase threatens to lose, they finally find the monster they are looking for. In a tremendous final battle, in which the knitting needles that Lian Chu always carries with him in memory of his mother and which are not at all dragon-hunter-like, play an important role, Lian Chu defeats the dragon and thus not only saves his friends, but also the world from the threatening one Downfall.

With the death of the eater of the world, all other problems seem to have been eliminated. Even Lord Arnold has his eyesight back. But when he realizes that Gwizdo and Lian Chu are not shining heroes, but just simple drifters, he denies them any reward and throws them out of his castle. So the dragon hunters leave as poor as before. However, Zoe is so upset by her uncle's behavior that she sneaks away with a bag of gold and joins her friends.

template

Die Drachenjäger is based on the television series Dragon Hunters - Die Drachenjäger (2004-07). The plot of the film is set about ten years before the series. In addition to the main characters Gwizdo, Lian Chu and Hector, whose maturation from inexperienced drifters to real dragon hunters he depicts, some of the dragons shown also reappear in the series. In addition, little Zoe becomes the adult dragon hunter Zoria (as the episode The Lord of the Dragon suggests). However, there are some minor contradictions between series and film. The most important is that in the series, not the Eater of the World, but another, much smaller dragon (a roach arm cutter) is made responsible for the destruction of Lian Chu's home village. After all, this dragon also reappears at regular intervals, always when the three moons meet (also the title of the episode).
