Chavenat is a village and a commune déléguée in the municipality of Boisné-La Tude with 187 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2017) in the south of the Charente department in western France in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region .

Chavenat lies at an altitude of about 165 meters above sea level. d. About 25 kilometers (driving distance) south of Angoulême in the old cultural landscape of the Angoumois and Charente .

In the first half of the 19th century the community always had around 500 inhabitants; As a result of the phylloxera crisis in viticulture and the mechanization of agriculture , the number of inhabitants then fell continuously to the lows of recent decades.

For centuries, the inhabitants of the community lived from agriculture; the soils of the municipality belong to the Bons Bois of the Cognac wine-growing region , but sales of expensive brandies have tended to decline in recent decades, so that viticulture no longer plays an important role. Income from tourism, in particular the rental of holiday apartments ( gîtes ), has played a not insignificant role for the income of the municipal treasury since the 1960s.

The municipality of Chavenat merged with Charmant and Juillaguet on January 1, 2016 to form the Commune nouvelle Boisné-La Tude .
Attractions
- The unadorned and undivided apse of the parish church of Chavenat ( Église Saint-Cybard ) and the nave with its small windows date from the 11th century. The facade, designed according to a triumphal arch scheme with its well-preserved console frieze below the gable, is a work of the 12th century. The crossing tower and the stair tower accompanying it were renewed in the 19th century. Church construction has been recognized as a monument historique since 1996 .
