The Saint Pierre church has its origins in the 11th century. It is not a particularly large hall church and still has its original single-nave floor plan. In 1788 the tower was added and the windows were added. The entablature was covered with panels and this ceiling was then painted as a starry sky. The two sacristies were added to the choir side of the building .

The oldest part of the watermill dates from the 12th century. After the mill was partially destroyed by fire around 1900, a crenellated rectangular tower was built in place of the ruins . The water wheel , which drives the millstone via an elaborate transmission mechanism, has a diameter of 7 m. The mill is still in operation today and open to visitors.

On the edge of the village you can see the fronts of the Château des Rues, a historical property of the noble Rougé family, set back . The castle first appeared in the history books in 1395. The building was restored in the 15th century and finally rebuilt in 1768. A century later, the well-known architect René Hodé was commissioned to redesign it in the neo-Gothic style that was popular at the time . At the same time, the surrounding area was designed as an English garden by the well-known landscape architect Comte de Choulot .

tourism

The small village of Chenillé-Changé on the banks of the Mayenne consists of old buildings with large slate roofs and has a historically interesting core. Close to the old Saint Pierre church, visitors will find an old mill and the Château des Rues. Otherwise the townscape as well as the local tourism is determined by the proximity to the river. As in other localities, holidaymakers can also rent one of the narrow Pénichettes and use it to travel the Mayenne upstream or downstream to the confluence with the Loir and Sarthe .
