The Chery A3 , in Serbia Chery Tengo is a compact class passenger car from the Chinese manufacturer Chery Automobile . It is marketed under the name Chery J3 in Australia, New Zealand and South Africa .

The A3, designed by Pininfarina , is available as a notchback or a hatchback with rear door handles hidden in the window frames. The hatchback variant was formally shown as a concept vehicle at Auto China 2006, and the production version was formally shown for the first time at the same trade fair in 2008. The car is powered by a 1.6-liter gasoline engine with a maximum output of 93 kW (126 hp). There is only one equipment line of the hatchback with what by Chinese standards is already extensive safety equipment with ABS as well as driver and passenger airbags; for the notchback there are also ESP and side airbags for an extra charge . The standard equipment also includes air conditioning, central locking with remote control and a consumption display.

In the crash test carried out by C-NCAP in model year 2008, the model was rated five stars and achieved 45.3 points.

In Egypt, the models as the Speranza M11 (notchback) and Speranza M12 (hatchback) are manufactured under license.
