Cheshire Cat is the debut album by the American rock band blink-182 . It was released on February 17, 1995 on the independent labels Cargo Music and Grilled Cheese .
Background and content
Originally the group released the album under the band name blink . However, since there was already an Irish band that had this name, they had to change their name and chose the addition -182 . The album's title comes from the Cheshire Cat to German Cheshire Cat from Lewis Carroll's novel Alice in Wonderland .
The songs can be assigned to the genres of pop-punk and skatepunk , with the band mainly dealing with typical youth topics such as pranks and masturbation in a funny way.
Cover design
The album cover shows a Siamese cat with bright blue eyes. Above it is the writing blink-182 in yellow letters . The picture is framed in brown.
