Christel "Chisu" Martina Sundberg (pronounced "kisu"; born January 3, 1982 in Helsinki ) is a Finnish musician and songwriter . Mainly known as a singer, she also writes songs (both music and lyrics) for other Finnish singers, such as Cristal Snow , Antti Tuisku , Tarja Turunen , Laura Närhi , Jippu , Kristiina Brask , Vesa-Matti Loiri or Kristiina Wheeler .

life and career

Sundberg was born in Helsinki, but the family comes from Ånge in Sweden and moved from there to Helsinki shortly before she was born. Her father is Finland-Swede . However, she grew up speaking Finnish and only learned Swedish at school. She spent her childhood in Helsinki and Mikkeli .

As an adult, Sundberg first worked in clothing retail, but became more and more interested in music and then enrolled in an English singing school. Her first piece of music performed publicly was background music for the ghost train in the Särkänniemi amusement park in Tampere .

Her first solo single was Mun koti ei oo taällä (fin. My home is not here ), the theme song for the 2007 film Sooloilua (fin. Solo beauties ), which stormed the charts in early 2008. In 2005 Sundberg wrote the song Pidä musta kii (fin. Hold me tight ) for the film Tyttö sinä olet tahti ( Eng . Title The girl and the rapper ), which was sung by Pamela Tola .

Chisu's first album Alkovi was released on February 27, 2008. She released a total of four albums (see discography ), the third Kun valaistun in two versions (the later with three additional songs and in other formats). The first already achieved gold status , two more platinum .

Chisu can be heard as a background singer on the albums Alpha Omega by Cheek , Hitchin to Helsinki by Kristiina Wheeler and the single Wicked by Cristal Snow.

Awards

In 2009 Chisu received two Emma awards: "e-Emma" and the award for the best song of the year Mun koti ei oo taällä . In 2010 her song Baden-Baden was named the song of the year, the album Vapaa ja yksin received the critics award for the best album, and Chisu herself received the award for best female producer, which was the first time it was presented to a woman. She was nominated in a total of seven categories. In 2009 Chisu also won the Radio Gaala Award for Best Local Musician. In 2016, her album Polaris was awarded the Emma Critics' Prize as best album.

The video for the song Baden-Baden received the golden Muuvi award from IFPI Finland (Organization of Finnish Record Companies) in 2010 . In the same competition it also received the audience award. By then, Chisu has sold over 170,000 records.

In 2011 she received the Emma Prize for the best female soloist. Her album Kun valaistun was awarded as best album and best pop album.

Private

The singer is married to the lighting and scene designer Mikki Kunttu, the couple has a daughter.
