Christopher DeSousa (born October 19, 1990 in Mississauga , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with Vaasan Sport in the Liiga since April 2019 .
Career
DeSousa began his youth career in the Canadian Ontario Hockey League in his hometown with the Mississauga IceDogs . After the franchise moved to St. Catharines , DeSousa played for the Niagara IceDogs for another three years .
At the end of the 2009/10 season DeSousa was transferred to the London Knights to strengthen the team for the upcoming playoffs. For the next season he was appointed assistant captain of his team. After the season did not go as hoped, he was only in twelfth place on the scoring list, he was transferred to the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors . There he developed into a reliable scorer. In a total of 50 games he scored 17 goals and 27 assists.
After the season DeSousa dared the step into the Canadian university league and played from then on with the UBEI Panthers . In a total of four seasons he scored 60 goals and 66 assists in 120 games. In his last season he had a short guest appearance in the ECHL at the Indy Fuel . Now DeSousa went to the professionals. He signed an entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks , but initially only played for their farm team , the Rockford IceHogs . After two years in the American Hockey League and a few more appearances in the Indy Fuel, DeSousa went to Europe for the first time.
In summer 2017 he signed a contract with HC Bozen in the Austrian Erste Bank Ice Hockey League . In his first season he won the championship with the Foxes . With a total of 25 goals, DeSousa was the champions' most successful goalscorer. However, he left the Italians after a year and moved to a league competitor, the Vienna Capitals .
