Christian Alexander Freiherr von Stetten (born July 24, 1970 in Stuttgart ) is a German entrepreneur , politician ( CDU ) and member of the German Bundestag .

Life and work

Christian Alexander von Stetten was born in Stuttgart as the eldest of three children of Wolfgang Freiherr von Stetten and Silvia Freifrau von Stetten. Together with his brother Richard (* 1971) and his sister Franziska (* 1977), he represents the 30th generation of the Franconian noble family of Stetten, who have lived between the Kocher and Jagst rivers since 1098 .

Stetten Castle

Through his Swiss mother Silvia, Christian von Stetten also received Swiss citizenship from birth with the town of Wildhaus SG .

Since he was born he has lived in the small hilltop castle in the village of Stetten Castle above the Kocher. The castle complex Schloss Stetten is located in Baden-Württemberg and is part of the Hohenlohe district town of Künzelsau .

After graduating from the Wirtschaftsgymnasium in Öhringen , he did his military service and then completed a degree in business administration at the University of Mannheim and the Heilbronn University of Applied Sciences , which he graduated with a degree in business administration with a focus on marketing, human resources and e-commerce. During his studies he started his own business in Künzelsau in 1994 and founded Stetten Bau GmbH and Technologie Holding Christian Stetten GmbH in 1996. He founded further subsidiaries in 1997 and 1999.

Christian von Stetten is the CEO and majority shareholder of Schloss Stetten Holding AG, which was founded in 2001.

On July 24, 2014 Christian von Stetten and Natalie Pfeiffer married. The most prominent wedding guest at Stetten Castle was the singer Chris de Burgh . Christian von Stetten has two children.

Political party

Young Union (JU)

Von Stetten joined the Junge Union Hohenlohe in 1986 . From 1990 to 1999 he led the CDU youth organization in the Hohenlohe district as an honorary district chairman . From 1994 to 2002 he was also a member of the JU state board of Baden-Württemberg and in 1998 and 1999 of the German council of the JU federal association. Until his nomination as CDU candidate for the Bundestag constituency Schwäbisch Hall - Hohenlohe , from 1999 to 2002 he was honorary district chairman of the 4,000 member JU district association of North Württemberg .

Christian Democratic Union (CDU)

In 1988 von Stetten joined the CDU Hohenlohekreis . Since 1989 he has held various honorary board and delegate mandates within the CDU at district, district, state and federal level. From 2003 to 2008 he was involved in the associations of the CDU in Germany as honorary state chairman of the SME and Economic Union of Baden-Württemberg and, after disagreements, moved to the federal executive committee of the 30,000 member CDU economic organization in 2009 as a member of the presidium of the MIT federal association. Currently chairman of the SME parliamentary group (PKM) of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group. Since 2005 he has also been a member of the federal board of the CDU's 80,000-strong local political association (KPV).

Christian von Stetten was at times involved in the conservative Berlin circle .

From 1996 to 2001 he was the second candidate for Karl Hehn, Member of the Hohenlohe State Parliament, and from 1999 to 2004, he was the second candidate for European MP Rainer Wieland .

On November 16, 2001, the approximately 2000 members of the CDU district associations Schwäbisch Hall and Hohenlohe nominated Christian von Stetten as their candidate for the federal election on September 22, 2002 . He followed his father Wolfgang von Stetten . At the nomination meetings in 2005 and 2008 for the federal elections on September 18, 2005 and September 27, 2009, there was no opposing candidate against him.

MP

Local politics

At the age of 18 he ran for the local council of his place of residence Künzelsau-Kocherstetten and was a member of the committee for ten years from 1989 to 1999.

He has been a member of the municipal council of the district town of Künzelsau since 1994 and has also represented the citizens of Künzelsau in the district council of the Hohenlohe district since 1994. In the Baden-Württemberg municipal elections in 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014 and 2019, Christian von Stetten was confirmed in both of his offices.

In the German Bundestag he is a member of the local politics working group of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and since 2005 a member of the federal executive committee of the CDU Germany's local political association.

Federal politics

Since 2002 he has been a member of the German Bundestag and a directly elected member of the Schwäbisch Hall - Hohenlohe constituency. He is a member of the board of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, is the parliamentary group's spokesperson for medium-sized businesses and chairman of the influential SME parliamentary group (PKM) of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group, to which 144 of the 237 members of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group belong.

He is chairman of the finance commission of the CDU / CSU parliamentary group and is a member of the finance committee of the German parliament as well as a deputy member of the committee for economy and energy and the committee for election review, immunity and rules of procedure.

Christian von Stetten has always entered the Bundestag as a directly elected member of the Schwäbisch Hall-Hohenlohe constituency . In the 2005 Bundestag election it received 46.5 percent of the vote, 43.3 percent in the 2009 Bundestag election, 52.3 percent in the 2013 Bundestag election and 40.5 percent in the 2017 Bundestag election .

European politics

In an interview with ARD, von Stetten said in view of the escalating Greek debt crisis shortly before the referendum on July 5, 2015 , the "heads of state and government should now be honest and see clearly that the experiment with the Greeks unwilling to reform" had failed. You should rather focus on what kind of humanitarian action would have to be taken if Greece left the euro. In the roll call vote on the so-called third aid package for Greece on July 17, 2015, von Stetten voted against.

Others

Christian von Stetten gained media attention by being the first member of the Bundestag to offer a training position in a parliamentary office in Berlin in 2004. His commitment to more training positions was discussed intensively after he enabled the BAMBI laureate for integration and rapper Bushido, who has been convicted and controversially discussed several times, to do an internship in the Bundestag in 2012 . The process was particularly critical, since business relationships with close confidants of Bushido already existed in advance.

Honorary Consul General Maldives

Christian Freiherr von Stetten is a volunteer honorary consul general of the Republic of Maldives in Germany. Since 2010 he has supported the democratic and parliamentary development of the formerly dictatorial Maldives. Together with the democratically elected government, he is working on the CO₂ neutrality of the island state threatened by rising sea levels.

Because of Stetten's commitment to environmental and climate protection, the islanders call him "Climate Consul".

Stetten is Honorary Consul of the Republic of Maldives in Berlin.
