Christian Malycha

Christian Alexander Malycha (born December 12, 1978 in Herdecke , Westphalia ) is a German art historian . From 2013 to 2018 he was artistic director of the Kunstverein Reutlingen, and from 2018 to 2020 he was a member of the management team at Kerber Verlag.

Life

After finishing school at the Evangelische Gymnasium / Evangelische Landesschule zur Pforte in Meinerzhagen and the Uppingham School in Uppingham , England, he studied art history and philosophy at the Humboldt University of Berlin , the University of the Arts Berlin and the University of Potsdam with Horst Bredekamp and Robert Kudielka with a focus on painting and sculpture in the 20th and 21st centuries. He completed his studies with a thesis on the reversal of motifs in Georg Baselitz's work .

In cooperation with the Berlin University of the Arts, the Berlin-Weißensee School of Art and the Braunschweig University of Fine Arts , he and fellow students initiated an exhibition space in Berlin from 2002–2003 in order to exchange ideas with artists of his own generation during his studies. This was followed by freelance work, own exhibitions, publications and lectures for art associations , museums and other institutions in Germany, Europe and North America. From 2013 to 2018 he was artistic director and managing director of the Kunstverein Reutlingen, and from 2018 to 2020 he was a member of the management team of the Kerber Verlag, which specializes in art books.

From 2009 to 2010 he was a lecturer at the Kunsthochschule Berlin-Weißensee, in 2012 guest lecturer at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Karlsruhe and from 2011 to 2015 tutor in the international scholarship program of Künstlerhaus Bethanien Berlin . Together with the designer Dorothee Heine, he was responsible for the program of the QHSOIQOCMS series of publications from 2010 to 2014 , in which, among other things, the last artist book by Franz West about his lifelong engagement with Ludwig Wittgenstein appeared. From 2015 to 2018 he lectured as a lecturer at the Art History Institute of the Eberhard Karls University Tübingen , and in 2017 at the State Academy of Fine Arts in Stuttgart .

Malycha regularly performs voluntary jury activities, including a. for the art in building, foreign scholarship and purchasing committee of the state of Baden-Württemberg , as well as for the GEDOK and the Hugo Häring Prize of the Neckar / Alb section of the BDA .
