Christian Mehrens (born January 19, 1972 in Kiel ) is a former German basketball player . The lanky center was the best shot blocker in the Bundesliga in the 1994/95 and 1996/97 seasons . After his playing career, Mehrens was also active as a coach in the 2nd women's basketball league .

Mehrens started his first first division season in 1992/93 in Giessen . In January 1993, however, he returned to the 2nd Bundesliga and played in Paderborn . Under the name forbo Paderborn , the Baskets succeeded in climbing into the first division in 1994 . After the descent, Mehrens played for the Dragons from Rhöndorf . In 1999 the Rhöndorfer sold their first division license to Frankfurt to the Skyliners . Mehrens then moved to Braunschweig . After a season in Braunschweig, he was initially active in Trier in the 2000/01 season , before moving back to the Rhine in December 2000 to the Cologne 99ers club that had been founded a year earlier in the regional league. After the regional league championship in 2001, the club skipped the second division and received the first division license from Rhöndorf, for which they had again qualified, but did not want to perceive. After the runner-up with RheinEnergie Cologne in the 2001/02 season , Mehrens moved back to Giessen during the 2002/03 season, where he had originally started his first division career and played the season there to the end. The following season he was back on the Rhine and played for the Magics from Düsseldorf in the second division.

After the 2003/04 season , Mehrens ended his professional playing career and initially worked as a coach for the Bergheim Bandits in the regional league. In the 2008/09 season Mehrens coached the Cologne 99ers' women's team in the second division. After the bankruptcy of the Cologne 99ers, this team was withdrawn and Mehrens then worked as a coach at MTV Cologne 1850 in the top division. In 2010 he made it to the 2nd Regionalliga West with this team.

For the 2012/2013 season, Mehrens was the new assistant coach at the Dragons Rhöndorf . He will also support Olaf Stolz's work there as co-trainer for the NBBL team of SG Bonn / Rhöndorf and act as head coach for the 2nd team of Dragons Rhöndorf in the 2nd Regionalliga West. After head coach Boris Kaminski resigned, Mehrens became the new head coach of the ProA team at Dragons Rhöndorf in January 2016 . After the Dragons' relegation, Mehrens did not receive a new contract as head coach of the ProB team and returned to SG Bonn / Rhöndorf as the new head coach. After the end of the 2018/2019 season, Mehrens left the cooperation program of Telekom Baskets Bonn and Dragons Rhöndorf.
