Christian Wilhelm Bronisch

Christian Wilhelm Bronisch Sorbian Kito Wylem Bronis , (* 5. December 1788 in injecting at Calau ; † 12. December 1881 in Drebkau ) was in the Lower Lausitz active Sorbian priest and linguist .

Life

The son of a pastor attended high school in Luckau before studying theology in Leipzig from 1808 to 1811 . Subsequently, he worked as a private tutor in Lübben for the electoral Saxon government council of the Margraviate of Niederlausitz, Erasmus Gottfried Bernhard Freiherr von Patow . Von Patow was the owner of the manor, including von Groß-Mehßow . When the local pastor, Johannes Wilhelm Koethe, took over the pastoral position in Altdöbern in 1816, Bronisch was called to Groß-Mehßow by the manor owner von Patow in the same year. Bronisch worked here for ten years. When his father, Matthias Bronisch, died in 1825, he took over the pastoral position in his birthplace Pritzen in 1826 , which he looked after for almost 50 years. He retired in 1874, which he spent in Drebkau .

Bronisch is considered one of the most versatile Sorabists of the 19th century. His publications include research results on onomastics as well as on folklore and history of the Sorbs in Lower Lusatia. He also contributed to Smoler's collection of Lower Sorbian folk songs. He was in contact with Karl Benjamin Preusker by letter. He did a great service for Groß-Mehßow by studying the history of the place and writing the first local chronicle.

He published articles in German in the New Lusatian Magazine (NLM) of the Upper Lusatian Society of Sciences (of which he was a member since 1844) as well as in the yearbooks for Slavic literature, art and science and in Sorbian in the Časopis Maćicy Serbskeje (ČMS) of the Maćica Serbska .
