Christian of Denmark
Christian of Denmark (born April 10, 1603 in Copenhagen , † June 2, 1647 in Gorbitz near Dresden ) was the son of King Christian IV of Denmark and his wife Anna Katharina of Brandenburg, Crown Prince of Denmark and Norway, but died before his Father.
Life
Christian was appointed heir to the throne in Denmark by the Imperial Council in 1608 . He received first class training and led the reign when his father led an army in Germany in 1626. During this time he got into a dispute with his father because of his relationship with the unsuitable noblewoman Anne Lykke and his dissolute lifestyle and was soon effectively excluded from the government. In 1634 he married Magdalena Sibylle , a daughter of Elector Johann Georg I of Saxony . The wedding was celebrated pompously with the participation of envoys from all European royal houses to demonstrate that Denmark-Norway was still a major European power despite its unsuccessful participation in the Thirty Years War .
He was a great collector of antiques and works of art. His marriage was childless. As a result of his unhealthy lifestyle, the prince fell ill and died while his father was still alive during a visit to his wife's home. He never succeeded the throne.
