Kris Menace (* 1980 in Landau in the Palatinate ; real name Christoph Höffel ) is a musician and producer of electronic music.

Career

In the mid-1990s, Christoph Höffel began working as a producer and author for various chart projects such as The Disco Boys (Kontor, Superstar), Niels Van Gogh (Kosmo), Circ (Low Spirit), mainly in Germany and in 2005 he used the pseudonym Kris for the first time Menace.

The debut single Discopolis was released in 2005 on the label Vulture Music founded by Stardust member Alan Braxe in France. Discopolis was later re-released by the English house label Defected Records and appeared with a music video by Seb Janiak. The track was played by Pete Tong in over 30 shows and became the Ibiza anthem.

At the same time, Menace founded the Compuphonic label and released other singles such as Voyage , Fairlight (feat. Fred Falke) , Steamroller and Jupiter , which became one of the most downloaded tracks in 2006 in the Beatport download shop . A joint release with Alan Braxe followed in June 2007 with the single Lumberjack on Vulture Music. In 2008 he released the track Stereophonic together with the British band Spooky , which was named No. 1 on the Buzz Charts and one of the best releases of 2008 by DMC during the Winter Music Conference in Miami.

Menace has worked as a producer and remixer for Depeche Mode , Robbie Williams , Lana Del Rey , Kylie Minogue , LCD Soundsystem , Underworld , Air , The Presets , Metronomy , Moby , Róisín Murphy and Tracey Thorn, among others . His remix for Monarchy's The Phoenix Alive was licensed for the computer game FIFA 2012 .

From 2005 to 2012 Menace played regularly as a DJ in clubs such as Fabric or the Ministry of Sound in London, the Razzmatazz in Barcelona, Amnesia and Space (Ibiza) and toured Australia, Japan, Canada, Brazil and other countries. From July 2009 to the end of 2010 he had a weekly radio show on the French broadcaster Radio FG .

In May 2009 Menace released the 3-CD compilation Idiosyncrasies . The release Lightning was mixed into a mashup by the Canadian DJ U-Tern with The Dreams Walking on the Moon and placed in the Top 10 of the US Billboard charts.

In 2009 he founded Project Black Van with KoweSix from Moonbootica , which released on the New York label DFA Records and the label 'Permanent Vacation'. A year later, Black Van released Holy Ghost! the single Moments of Excellence . Further publications followed on the own label Excellent Music .

In 2011 he founded the disco band Stars on 33 with New Yorker Lawrence LT Thompson and Radical Peterson (Robin Felder) . The first release Let the Music Guide You EP appeared on the Eskimo label .

In early 2012 the instrumental album Electric Horizon was released , the release of which 'Falling Star' was used for the Paralympics . In late 2012 he produced his first vocal album Features , which featured artists such as Xavier Naidoo , Julian Hamilton from The Presets , Miss Kittin , Robert Owens and Romanthony . The album was remixed in 2013 by artists such as Airplane, Oliver, Kölsch, Dusty Kid, Com Truise and others. The video for the release Hide was awarded a staff pick by Vimeo. The single "Waiting For You" was licensed by Kontor Records in 2014.

He gave his first TV interview on Arte.tv.

At the end of 2012 he released an album under the project name "We Are Are We" from which the song 'Series' was used for the worldwide "Davidoff Cool Water Night Dive TV Campagne".

In June 2013 he released the album This Is Love with the disco band Stars On 33 , as well as a live album that he had recorded in Barcelona.

In November 2013 the fourth studio album The Entirety Of Matter was released with which he presented the world's first VR 'Virtual Reality Music Video' exactly one year later. For this purpose, the GIF animations made by the American GIF art artist Matt DiVito were translated into a 3D framework specially made for the project, which should be freely available to other artists in the future. A new 3D audio technology is also used for the first time, which emulates a spatial representation through the gyro-scope sensor technology.

In September 2014 he presented his new and long previously announced band project 'Menace & Lord', which he founded with the MTV award winner Simon Lord from London. Both signed with Warner / WePlay. Here they released the album Sun, Moon & Stars .

Various publications followed in 2015 together with Lifelike. The singles "Ready 4 Love", "What Time Is Love" with KLF, "Ecstasy" as well as a new version of their single from 2005 under the name "Discopolis 2.0" on Armada Music.

After a long break he released the single "Rome" with the singer Millé on RCA / Famouz / Sony in January 2020. The Meduza remix by Discopolis also reached 2.0. over 300,000 streams on Spotify within a week.
