Christoph Raßler

Christoph R. Raßler OSB , also Christophorus Raslerus , (* 1615 in Konstanz ; † March 19, 1675 in the Petershausen Abbey near Konstanz) was a Benedictine , theologian , scholar and abbot of Zwiefalten .

A family relationship with the Jesuit Johann Christoph Raßler (1654–1723) is possible; as well as to the Jesuits Franz Raßler (1649–1734) and Maximilian Raßler (1645–1719).

Life

After joining the Benedictine Abbey of Zwiefalten, he was given the religious name of St. Christopher and finally made his profession. He was allowed to study in Rome and in 1652 became a professor at the Benedictine University in Salzburg .

In 1654 and 1655 he published the dogmatic textbooks in Salzburg :

  • Tractatus dogmatico-moralis de visione beatifica
  • Tractatus dogmatico-moralis de sacramentis in genere
  • Tractatus dogmatico-moralis de sacramento et virtute poenitentiae
  • Tractatus dogmatico-moralis de natura theologiae

  • Commentarius in primam secundae Summae Angelici S. Thomae Aquinatis (Salzburg 1656/57)
  • Commentarius in primam partem S. Thomae de Substantia, Affectionibus, effectis et causis Angelorum (Salzburg 1656)

On December 21, 1658 he was elected the new abbot of the Benedictine Abbey of Zwiefalten and the following day the Constance Auxiliary Bishop Georg Sigismund Müller solemnly consecrated him to the abbot . Under his aegis , the new order for the Swabian Benedictine Congregation was created , which was adopted by all abbots in 1671.

Raßler died in the Benedictine monastery Petershausen in Constance.
