Musical career

Christoph Theusner, July 2010

At the age of five, Theusner was trained by his father to play the guitar and lute . He then attended the Köpenick music school (subjects: singing , flute and music theory ) and took piano lessons . After moving to Weimar, Theusner became a member of the blues rock band Garage Players . Through contact with fellow students from Cambodia and Cuba , a new group emerged: Theusner soon found the catchy structures of blues rock unsatisfactory and founded the Bayon group with Michael Lehnhardt, Sam Ay Neou and Luis Bayard, among others; Sonny Thet joined in 1972.

The multicultural band Bayon still exists today, with the most successful period in the 1970s and 1980s. The line-up of the band changed frequently, only Theusner and Sonny Thet remained permanently in the band as regular members and at times only appeared as a duo .

Bayon and, for a time, Theusner performed alone as studio musicians and live accompaniment to other musicians from the GDR , for example with Reinhold Andert or Kurt Demmler . He composed the music for theater projects, other locomotions (modern dance project; director: Clement de Wroblewsky) and conversation above the roofs based on texts by Wolfgang Borchert .

Theusner has also been writing music for film and acting since 1979. From 1990 to 1994 Theusner was permanently employed at the DNT Weimar as Kapellmeister for drama music. From the mid-1990s, Theusner returned to his work as a composer for drama productions, where he also appeared as a live musician, for example at the Landestheater Neustrelitz and the Central Saxon Theater Freiberg .

Bayon was also revived with a new line-up, and several new CDs have been released since then. In June 2006 there was a joint anniversary concert with the star combo Meißen in Dresden .
