Christoph Christian Valentien (born August 4, 1939 in Stuttgart ) and Donata Valentien (born October 30, 1944 in Coburg ) are German landscape architects , urban planners, university professors and authors.

Christoph Valentien

Christoph Christian Valentien was born in Stuttgart in 1939 as the son of the art dealer Fritz C. Valentien and his wife Alwine. After graduating from high school, he studied landscape architecture at the Weihenstephan Academy (today Weihenstephan Science Center of the Technical University of Munich ) and urban planning with Erich Kühn at RWTH Aachen University . Associated with this was a practical activity in the city planning office of the city of Duisburg . From 1967 to 1972 he was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Landscape Planning under Walter Rossow at the University of Stuttgart . In 1971, together with Donata Valentien, he founded the office of Valentien + Valentien landscape architects and urban planners , initially based in Stuttgart, and from 1981 in Weßling . From 1973 to 1980 he was a lecturer in landscape design at the Stuttgart University of Applied Sciences .

In 1980 Christoph Valentien was appointed full professor at the chair for landscape architecture and design at the Technical University of Munich. He had an intensive exchange in research and teaching with the Agricultural University of Athens and the École nationale supérieure du paysage in Versailles . Even after his retirement in 2002, he was and is active on numerous juries and advisory committees. A special focus of work and research has been in China since 1998, with seminars and lectures on contemporary international landscape architecture in the universities of Beijing , Nanjing and Shanghai . Since 2001 he has held a concurrent professorship at Nanjing Forestry University, China.

Donata Valentien

Donata Valentien was born in Coburg in 1944 as the daughter of forester Werner Seifert and his wife Gabriele. After graduating from the Musisches Gymnasium in Bayreuth , she studied landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich- Weihenstephan and the Technical University of Berlin with Hermann Mattern . From 1969 she was a research assistant and lecturer at the Institute for Landscape Planning by Walter Rossow at the University of Stuttgart . Since 1971 she has been working freelance with Christoph Valentien with the office of Valentien + Valentien landscape architects and urban planners. From 1975 to 1988 she taught landscape planning as an honorary professor at the Institute for Regional Culture and Plant Ecology at the University of Stuttgart-Hohenheim , and in 1980 she became an honorary professor at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Munich. In addition to her freelance work, Donata Valentien has participated in numerous lecture events, juries and advisory boards.

From 2006 to 2012 Donata Valentien was director of the architecture section at the Berlin Academy of the Arts . As part of this activity, she was responsible for a. the lecture series “Conversations on Architecture and City”, curated the exhibition “Return of the Landscape” and is editor of the volume accompanying the exhibition.

In 2014 Donata Valentien was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon.
