Christopher Ventris

Christopher Ventris (born May 5, 1960 in London ) is a British opera singer ( heroic tenor ). He became known for his portrayal of Parsifal , which he played at the Bayreuth Festival in 2008 and at the Vienna State Opera in 2017 .

biography

After graduating from the Royal Academy of Music , Ventris performed at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera and won the GTO Singers and John Christie Awards. He continued to sing in other UK theaters including Opera North and the English National Opera . In 2007 he was the recipient of the Maria Callas Debutante Award, which was given annually by the Dallas Opera to successful singers of the label.

Ventris' engagements meanwhile also include productions at the Vienna State Opera, the San Francisco Opera , the Covent Garden Opera London, the Teatro di San Carlo Naples, the Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro alla Scala in Milan, the Glyndebourne Festival , the Grand Théâtre de Genève in Geneva and the Bavarian State Opera .
