Christ Church

The Christ Church is a Protestant church in Gauting , a parish in the Starnberg district . It was inaugurated in 1928.

history

In 1926 the church council decided to build the church. The design was by Theodor Fischer ; the foundation stone was laid in September 1927. The inauguration took place in September 1928.

In the 1970s the church was listed as a historical monument . The last major renovation to date took place by 2005; at the same time a new organ was inaugurated.

Architecture and equipment

The hall church , built of red brick , is characterized by a rectangular floor plan - with two extensions - and two short towers with a square floor plan. In the east there is an apse , in the south a sacristy . At the portal there are sculptures by Friedrich Lommel , which represent the symbols of the four evangelists . The tympanum under the keystone shows the Lamb of God and the letters Alpha and Omega .

Altar with altarpiece

The relatively small interior is largely axially symmetrical. The flat coffered ceiling is made of larch wood . To the left and right of the aisle are benches made of the same material. The floor is covered with Solnhofen slate . The wall behind the altar shows frescoes by Max Unold , which depict biblical scenes under one word from Psalm 36 . The altarpiece in the apse shows Christ in the Byzantine style . The pulpit on the left bears the fresco of a vine , also created by Unold . To the right of the altar there is a barred cabinet in which the sacrament utensils are kept. The font was made in 2005 by Helmut Ulrich from Wachenzeller dolomite . The floor panels below the font are made of the same material. In the same year Ulrich also created the altar cross and the Easter candlestick.

Back wall with organ

On the back wall is the organ gallery with the organ, the bluish prospect of which takes up the main color of the altarpiece. Two niches are also symmetrically embedded in the wall, each with a bench.

The organ was built by Gerhard and Markus Lenter from Sachsenheim as their second new building. It consists of the two manual works on the left and right and the console as well as the pedal work behind it in the middle. In its tonal language it is attributed to the early romanticism .

The three bells in the bell tower are rung by ropes . The middle bell has been hanging in the church since 1928. Two more bells from the original peal were melted down during the Second World War and replaced after the war by bells from Leubus Monastery and Münsterberg in Silesia . The consecration of the new bell took place in 1952.

use

Services are held in the church on Sundays and public holidays. It is also used for casualia . The church music is organized by the "Church Music Club".

Surroundings

The church is located near the city center between the railway line and Würm at Ammerseestrasse 17, off the street on a terrace slope from the Ice Age . The church property includes the rectory, the parish hall and a kindergarten, which were built between 1962 and 1995.
