Clara Zollikofer

Clara Zollikofer (born March 12, 1881 in St. Gallen ; † March 1, 1975 in Zurich ) was a Swiss botanist, private lecturer and adjunct professor of botany at the University of Zurich .

Live and act

Clara Zollikofer , daughter of a respected St. Gallen family, was stimulated by attending the horticultural school for women in Godesberg to deal with plant physiological problems and then studied at various German universities. With an investigation into the statolith theory , she did her doctorate in 1918 under Gottlieb Haberlandt at the Friedrich Wilhelms-Universität zu Berlin . She expanded her knowledge of the growth, movement and development physiology of plants through a stay in Frits Went's laboratory in Utrecht . After completing her studies in Holland, the young botanist chose the Institute for General Botany at the University of Zurich as her definitive field of activity . Here she received the Venia Legendi in 1921 as a private lecturer for botany with special consideration of physiology and morphology . In recognition of her work, she was appointed adjunct professor in 1933. In 1949 she retired for reasons of age.
