Clemens Pickel (born August 17, 1961 in Colditz , GDR ) is a German clergyman and Roman Catholic bishop of St. Clemens in Saratow and chairman of the Russian Bishops' Conference.

Life

After studying Catholic theology and philosophy at the Philosophy and Theology studies in Erfurt was Clemens Pickel on 19 December 1987 by Bishop Georg Weinhold in Artern for deacon ordained. Half a year later, on June 25, 1988, he received the sacrament of ordination from Joachim Reinelt in the Catholic Court Church and was incardinated in the clergy of the Dresden-Meißen diocese . He was initially a chaplain in Kamenz, from 1990 he was released for pastoral care in the former Soviet Union and spent a year in Dushanbe in Tajikistan . In 1991 he became pastor of Marx on the Volga.

On 23 March 1998 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To the titular of Chusira and ordered him auxiliary bishop for the Apostolic Administration for European Russia . He was ordained episcopal by the Apostolic Nuncio in the Russian Federation , Archbishop John Bukovsky , on June 7th of the same year. On this occasion, Clemens Pickel looked for the motto Veni Domine Iesu (“Come, Lord Jesus”) based on the Revelation of John ( Rev 22.20b  EU ). On November 23, 1999 Pickel was appointed Apostolic Administrator for the European Southern Russia and on February 11, 2002 with the elevation of the administration to the diocese of St. Clement in Saratov.

Clemens Pickel was a member of the Cor Unum Pontifical Council . In 2011 he became vice-chairman of the Russian Bishops' Conference , of which he was elected chairman in March 2017, succeeding Paolo Pezzi . He also holds the office of President of the Diocesan Caritas of Southern Russia.

2009-2013 designed Clemens Pickel annually for a week, the five-minute morning service of the Germany radio .
