Cloxacillin is an antibiotic effective drug . The substance from the group of β-lactam antibiotics belongs to the penicillinase- resistant penicillins. Cloxacillin is mainly used today in veterinary medicine , in Germany there is no preparation for humans on the market.

The main areas of application indicated are infections with penicillin-resistant staphylococci , such as skin and soft tissue infections ( impetigo , cellulitis , pyomyositis ), endocarditis , septicemia , pneumonia , osteomyelitis and the like. a. The spectrum of activity corresponds to that of other isoxazolyl penicillins, which include oxacillin , dicloxacillin , flucloxacillin and methicillin . Cloxacillin differs from oxacillin in that it has an additional chlorine atom on the phenyl ring .

Cloxacillin is listed on the World Health Organization Essential Medicines List. It can be administered intravenously or orally .
