The Coast Province ( Coast Province ) was a province of Kenya . It lay along the coast of the country on the Indian Ocean . Their capital was Mombasa .
The province had an area of 84,113 km², on which about 3,035,000 inhabitants lived. The residents belonged to the Mijikenda , Swahili and many other ethnic groups.
Other important cities were Diani in the south, Malindi , Watamu and Lamu in the north. Diani is a tourist center with sandy beaches and palm trees. Watamu is a small fishing community and is the first marine national park in East Africa .
There were many archaeological sites in the province, such as Kwale , Jumba la Mtwana , Takwa , Ungwana , Shanga and the ruins at Gedi .
As part of the 2010 constitution , the Kenyan provinces were dissolved. The counties Kilifi , Kwale , Lamu , Taita-Taveta and Tana River are located in the area of the Coast Province today .

Tana conflict
Ten people were murdered in the Coast Province in a revenge attack on the village of Kibusu on January 10, 2013. Five of the dead and stabbed victims were children, and two adults were seriously injured in the attack. All victims had gunshot wounds, cuts from machetes, and burns. The attack was aimed at the Pokomo ethnic group , who carried out an attack on the village of Nduru on January 9, 2013, killing nine.
