action

Jake Rodgers wakes up one day in a hotel room. Next to him is a dead FBI agent and a bag of cash. Rodgers has amnesia and can't remember anything.

At the hotel entrance, Rodgers meets Diane, who tells him she is his wife, but it turns out to be a lie. With bits of memory returning one by one, Rodgers believes he is a secret agent. Later he meets Gina. She works as a waitress and appears to be acquainted with Rodgers. From her he learns that he works as a caretaker for the software company DART, which he does not want to believe. Rodgers recalls a few fight scenes shown in flashbacks that corroborate his suspicions of being a secret agent. Gina helps Rodgers regain memory. It turns out that Rodgers is actually a caretaker at DART, but helped the FBI with an investigation against CEO Eric Hauck. Hauck wanted to use a newly developed computer chip for illegal purposes. Rodgers had stolen the chip before he lost his memory and sold it to the FBI. During the planned handover of the chip, Shaw, an FBI agent bribed by Hauck, accidentally shot his partner. Diane should find out from him where he had hidden the chip. Ultimately, Rodgers and Gina manage to save the chip from its hiding place. Hauck and Diane are arrested. The film ends with Rodgers and Gina, freshly in love, starting a vacation in which they plan to squander the money out of their suitcase.

Reviews

James Berardinelli wrote on ReelViews that Cedric the Entertainer was taking the plot so seriously that the laughter would fall silent for long periods of time. The elements of a thriller are more suitable for a sitcom, which makes the film “lengthy and boring”. The main actor can be very funny, but this is so rare in this comedy that it is at best suitable for late-night cable television ("aren't enough of them for the movie to rise above late-night cable fare (at best)") . Only Lucy Liu in the cast does not embarrass herself (“she's the only one in the cast who doesn't embarrass herself”). Nicollette Sheridan acts painfully badly; Callum Keith Rennie manages to appear as boring as you can imagine as a villain. Berardinelli admitted in the end that there were much worse comedies - this one was "tolerable", but no more.

Neil Genzlinger wrote in the New York Times on January 5, 2007 that the artless portrayal of Cedric the Entertainer killed what could have been a much funnier comedy. The script is not intelligent enough for the film to be a parody of the Bourne films, nor is the play of the main actor subtle enough.

Kirk Honeycutt wrote in The Hollywood Reporter on January 5, 2007 that the film offered a "lowest common denominator" level of humor. The "implausible" plot includes numerous holes. No gags are particularly funny, some are painfully uncomfortable. Liu and Sheridan would add some shine to the film.
