Cold Bay Airport ( IATA code : CDB , ICAO code : PACD ) is a public airport in Cold Bay , Alaska . It is owned by the state and is the main airport on the Alaska Peninsula .

The main runway is the fifth largest in Alaska and was built during World War II. Today it is mainly used by scheduled cargo flights and is occasionally used as an emergency runway for passenger flights over the Pacific .

Cold Bay Airport was also an alternative landing site for NASA space shuttles .
