The Valdez Airport ( IATA: VDZ; ICAO: PAVD; as Pioneer Field known) is a public, from the state of Alaska -operated airport, which is 6 km east of the city center of Valdez is.
Infrastructure and air traffic
The airport opened in October 1952 and is located almost 5 km east of the city of Valdez. It covers an area of 57 hectares and is located 37 meters above sea level. It has an asphalt runway called 06/24, which is 1981 meters long and 46 meters wide.
In 2011, the airport recorded approximately 9,300 aircraft movements (25 per day, 40.9% air taxi , 53.8% general aviation and 5.4% military). There were 35 aircraft stationed in Valdez: 25 single-engine aircraft, one twin-engine aircraft, seven helicopters and two microlights .
