history
The airport opened in 1940, when it was used for military purposes . The Yakutat Army Airfield had created a base with the United States Army to protect Alaska in World War II.
General
Yakutat Airport has two non-intersecting runways with the orientations of 11/29, or 02/20, the first of these paths a ILS - approach allows, so a precision approach. It is also the only one that has a so-called VASI system. Be careful between October and May, as the slopes can be very icy due to the cold and snow .
