Conny Jackel

Horst Konrad "Conny" Jackel (born August 30, 1931 in Offenbach am Main , † April 28, 2008 in Bad Nauheim ) was a German jazz musician . He played the trumpet and flugelhorn .

Life

Jackel, who initially worked as a steel construction fitter, attended the conservatory in 1951 and from 1952 played in the clubs of the US Army in France, the Netherlands and Germany. In 1955 he became a member of the Helmut Brandt Combo and contributed to its success. In 1959 he went to the equally demanding arrangements gambling Media band of Harald Banter to Cologne. In 1961 Jackel moved to the Erwin Lehn Orchestra in Stuttgart, where he performed with Miles Davis , Chet Baker , Dizzy Gillespie and Frank Sinatra .

From 1964 to 1969 he was a member of the Hessischer Rundfunk jazz ensemble led by Albert Mangelsdorff . From 1967 he was the first trumpeter in the Hessischer Rundfunk dance orchestra under Willy Berking and in the hr big band under the direction of Heinz Schönberger . He also performed with Joki Freund and Rudi Sehring as well as with Attila Zoller and Charly Antolini ; he also made recordings with Gustl Mayer's Swing All Stars and Manfred Kullmann's trio . Then he was a member of the Hanau jazz band Sugar Foot Stompers and played with other traditional bands in the region (for example the Phoenix Jazz Band from Offenbach am Main).

After suffering from cancer, as a result of which Jackel's lower jaw was amputated, he had to give up playing the trumpet in 1999; occasionally he was active as a drummer with the Bookreaders, among other things . For his contributions to jazz, he was on September 9, 2006 at the historic Ronneburg to the Knights of Ronneburg beaten. Conny Jackel died after a long illness as a result of an operation in a Bad Nauheim clinic.
