Conrad Jon Godly

Conrad Jon Godly (born January 24, 1962 in Davos , Switzerland ) is a Swiss artist . He lives and works in Chur and Japan . His preferred way of working is oil painting . In it he mainly devotes himself to the landscape , in particular the mountains of his homeland in Graubünden and the landscapes of his adopted home Japan. His works do not depict real landscapes; rather , his painting is a search for the essence of the landscape and other topics that concern him. He has received international recognition primarily for his mountain paintings.

Conrad Jon Godly grew up in Davos . From 1982 to 1986 he enjoyed training at the Basel School of Design and Art , in Franz Fedier's painting class . During a stay in the USA from 1986 to 1987, he began working in the medium of photography . Then Godly worked exclusively with photography. He realized an international career as a photographer for magazines and advertising. In 2004 he returned to his home in the Graubünden mountains and turned back to painting. For four years he painted for himself, with landscapes and especially the high alpine mountains of Graubünden being his preferred subjects. From 2008 to 2009 he moved into a studio in Vienna . For the first time he showed works in 2008 in the annual exhibition of the Bündner Kunstmuseum in Chur. Since then, Conrad Jon Godly has exhibited regularly in Zurich , London , the Engadine and Japan. He has been married to the Japanese artist Kazuyo Okushiba since 2014.

In 2011 one of his works was added to the Daros Collection .
