Conrad Keller (born January 24, 1848 in Felben , † March 23, 1930 in Zurich , reformed , entitled to live in Felben and since 1905 in Zurich) was a Swiss zoologist .

Life

Conrad Keller's father was the butcher Jakob Keller, his mother Susanna was née Wiesmann. Keller graduated from the Frauenfeld Cantonal School and began studying zoology at the Universities of Lausanne and Zurich . After studying with Ernst Haeckel in Jena in 1874 , followed by research activities at the zoological stations in Naples and Trieste , he completed his studies with a dissertation on octopus.

Subsequently, Keller taught from 1875 as a private lecturer in zoology at the University and at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic in Zurich . Subsequently, he was appointed adjunct professor at the Polytechnic in 1889 , before he held the chair for special zoology there between 1898 and 1927 . In 1920 the University of Zurich awarded Conrad Keller an honorary doctorate in recognition of his services .

As a pet researcher, Conrad Keller undertook research trips to Ticino and Valais , three times to Africa and most recently to the Caucasus countries . He published illustrated, easily understandable books mainly on pets.

Conrad Keller, who remained unmarried, died two months after turning 82 in Zurich. His estate is kept in the ETH Library in Zurich .
