Felben [ ˈfɛlbən ] (in the local dialect : [ (fo) ˈfɛlbə ]) is a district of the political municipality of Felben-Wellhausen in the Swiss canton of Thurgau .
The municipal community of Felben, formed in 1803, merged in 1983 with its local communities of Felben and Wellhausen to form the unitary community of Felben-Wellhausen.
geography
The village lies in the Felben Thur plain on the main road Frauenfeld - Kreuzlingen and was until 1880 Thurkorrektion regularly affected by floods. The old village center forms a settlement square with the rows of west-east facing houses and the church.
history
The oldest evidence for the name of the village can be found in a document from 1178 in the form of Veluen . It is likely to go back to an Old High German field name * (bî den) fëlwen 'near the willows'.
Roman coin finds indicate traffic from the Roman era. At that time the Heerstrasse Winterthur - Pfyn ran through the area. In 1178 the Alt St. Johann monastery in Toggenburg in Felben acted as landlord . The judge was the city of Frauenfeld from the late Middle Ages until 1798 .
Before the Reformation , Felben, which probably had a chapel from the 9th century, belonged to Pfyn. From 1569 at the latest, Felben and Wellhausen formed a reformed parish, whose collature was held by the rule of Wellenberg and the city of Frauenfeld, while the Catholics belonged to Frauenfeld.

In 1909, 1920–1925 and 1969–1983 there was drainage and an overall improvement, after 1940 arable farming was intensified (sugar beet). Around 1900 embroidery, brickworks and sand pits offered work. The Muller Martini bookbinding machine factory was established in 1922 in the buildings of the Schifflistickerei Billwiller, founded in 1896 and employing 190 workers .
