history
From 1246 to 1415, the seat of the Lords of Ochsenhard, who were servants of the Lords of Griesenberg , was not far from the Burghof . The castle fell into disrepair in the 16th century. Before 1798, Harenwilen was one of the so-called high courts , which were directly subordinate to the federal governor in Thurgau . Agriculture dominated until the 19th century, then increasingly cattle and dairy farming. A sawmill was also operated in Harenwilen. To this day, the character of Harenwilen is shaped by agriculture, which is still the most important branch of business.
