The Contrast Trio is an existing since 2006 band from Frankfurt am Main in the field of jazz / electro .

style

The music of the Contrast Trio is a mixture of jazz, electronics and soundtrack-like music. In addition to the classical instruments piano, bass and drums, the Contrast Trio uses synthesizers, effects pedals, drum machines and samplers. The influences from electronic music , hip-hop and techno cannot be ignored. The pianist Yuriy Sych also brings folkloric elements from his Ukrainian homeland with him.

Through regular work at the Schauspiel Frankfurt , soundscape-like, atmospheric passages, most of which arise from found sounds, find their way into the music. On the second album, the group was “less concerned with individual virtuosity than with a jointly created sound aesthetic.” In the magazine Jazzthetik it says: “A steady groove carries melodic miniatures combined with very subtle, never intrusive electronic effects. Everything flows, pearls in this music. A wonderful interaction, a cooperation of virtuosos. "

At the 46th Frankfurt am Main Jazz Festival in October 2015, the Contrast Trio was one of the highlights. At the Hessian Jazzpodium 2016 in Darmstadt they were awarded the Hessian Jazz Prize in 2016 as a “young, energetic and yet very experienced jazz formation”. “The three excellently trained musicians with very different musical roots have an exuberant virtuosity.” In 2018, Jan Philipp replaced founding member Martin Standke on drums .
