Jan Philipp

Jan Philipp (born August 10, 1994 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German jazz musician ( drums , including samples , percussion , composition ).

Live and act

Philipp has lived in Cologne since 2014 and is currently studying jazz drums with Jonas Burgwinkel at the Cologne University of Music and Dance . He works in the local jazz scene in numerous formations, such as the Simon Below Quartet. In 2016 he won the jazz prize of the city of Frankfurt with the collaborative band The Whereme ?! (with Fabian Dudek , Raphael Krohn, David Helm ) and has been leading his own trio since 2017, to which Tobias Hoffmann (guitar) and David Helm (bass) belong. In 2019 he released the album Fake Folks under his own name with this trio on Klaeng Records .

Philipp also belonged to the Modern Man quintet (with Shannon Barnett , Matthew Halpin , Pablo Held and David Helm). In 2018 he also joined the Contrast Trio for Martin Standke .
