Fabian Dudek (born July 11, 1995 in Groß-Gerau ) is a German jazz musician ( alto and soprano saxophone , composition ).

Live and act

Dudek grew up in Nauheim and Rüsselsheim and wanted to be a musician as a child. After the recorder and clarinet , he began to learn alto saxophone with Oliver Leicht at the age of ten . In the family he became familiar with jazz early on; his father has an extensive record collection and organizes concerts as part of the Rüsselsheim Jazz Factory. With the big band of the Immanuel Kant School , IKS Swing Kids , Dudek also performed in France and Lithuania. Since 2012 he has been a young student at the Mainz University of Applied Sciences with Denis Gäbel for around one and a half years ; After graduating from high school, he moved to Cologne, where he has been studying at the Cologne University of Music and Dance since 2014 .

Dudek was a member of the Junior Band of the State Youth Orchestra of Hesse in 2011 and 2012, and then played in the State Youth Orchestra of Hesse in 2013 and 2014. In 2013 he founded the band Woodchip , with which a first album was created. In the collaborative band The Where Me ?! he has been working with guitarist Rafael Krohn, bassist David Helm and drummer Jan Philipp since 2016 . He led a trio with Robert Landfermann and Dominik Mahnig . He is also a member of the quartet of the pianist Simon Below and was a member of the Federal Jazz Orchestra in 2016 and 2017 . He also played with Jonas Burgwinkel , Sebastian Sternal , Philip Zoubek , Rainer Böhm , Nils Tegen , Benjamin Schaefer , Hendrik Soll , Sebastian Gramss and Klaus Heidenreich .

Prizes and awards

Dudek has received numerous awards with the IKS Swing Kids at state and federal level. In 2015 he received the cultural grant from the city of Rüsselsheim . In 2016 he is together with the band The Where Me ?! was awarded the work scholarship of the city of Frankfurt , the following year he received the soloist award at the Young German Jazz Prize Osnabrück . He has been sponsored by the German National Academic Foundation since the beginning of 2018 .
