Anna-Lena Schnabel (born June 24, 1989 in Obernkirchen ) is a German modern jazz musician ( alto saxophone , flute ).

Live and act

Schnabel first had classical piano and flute lessons. She wanted to become a musician at an early age and therefore attended a music-oriented grammar school. She came into contact with jazz through the school's big band and switched to saxophone at the age of 16, which she studied at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater . In the group News from the North she first appeared with Janning Trumann , Stephan Jantzen, Fabian Claußen and Fabian Arends .

She also played in the Lower Saxony youth jazz orchestra , then in the federal jazz orchestra ( Afropa , 25 ) and appeared as a soloist with the Hamburg Symphony Orchestra . In the group Curious Case she worked with Philipp Püschel, Christian Müller and Nathan Ott ; she also belonged to the quartet of Johannes von Ballestrem ; since 2019 she has been a member of the Orchester National de Jazz . She leads her own quartet and plays in the Saskya Trio with Clara Haberkamp and Lisa Wulff . In the group Extradiversion she plays with Florian Weber , Joachim Florent and Edward Perraud . In addition to appearances at renowned festivals such as JazzBaltica , Elbjazz and Überjazz , she regularly plays abroad - e.g. B. already in China, Australia, France, Poland, Russia, Turkey, Hungary, Senegal and Guinea-Bissau.

Schnabel has won several prizes at Jugend jazzt and has also received the Jazzspatz , the Praetorius Music Prize and the Ebel Scholarship . She is a scholarship holder with Live Music Now and the Oscar and Vera Ritter Foundation, and was awarded a scholarship to the New York Collective School . In 2017 Schnabel received the ECHO Jazz in the “Newcomer” category and the IB.SH-JazzAward as part of JazzBaltica .
