Nathan Ott (born May 29, 1989 in Augsburg ) is a German jazz musician ( drums , composition ).

Live and act

Ott grew up in a musical family in Augsburg and began to play drums at the age of 18 after training as a classical violinist and experience in classical youth orchestras, after having seen a concert by Dave Liebman . After taking classes with Walter Bittner, graduating from high school and a year of preparation, he began studying instrumental with Billy Elgart at the University of Music in Würzburg in 2009, before continuing and finishing it with Holger Nell in 2011 at the Hamburg University of Music and Theater .

In the quartet Curious Case he played with Anna-Lena Schnabel , Philipp Püschel and Christian Müller. In the Nathan Ott Quartet he recorded his debut album The Cloud Divers with Dave Liebman , Sebastian Gille and Robert Landfermann , which was released in 2018 by Unit Records . In December 2019 his second album Shades of Red ( Unit Records) was released in a quartet with Dave Liebman, Jonas Westergaard and Sebastian Gille.

He also worked with Christof Lauer , Richie Beirach , Stephan Meinberg , Christopher Dell , Sven Kerschek , Gabriel Coburger , Tobias Delius , Menzel Mutzke , Vladyslav Sendecki and Claus Stötter, among others . He also plays in the world music group Maik Mondial and in the duo project Doglance with the guitarist Julian Fischer. He toured internationally and performed at festivals such as Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Swinging Groningen, Tollwood and Elbjazz .

Prizes and awards

Ott has received several awards from Jugend musiziert and Jugend jazz awards. He is a scholarship holder of the Oscar-und-Vera-Ritter-Foundation, winner of the arts promotion award of the city of Augsburg, jazz award winner of the Fürther Nachrichten and in 2017 received the Creole-Tour-Award with Maik Mondial .
