The Gold Coast Airport , also Coolangatta Airport , is an Australian airport near the city of Coolangatta . Together with Brisbane International Airport, it is responsible for air traffic connections on the Gold Coast .

Construction of today's airport began in 1936 and the first scheduled flights took place in 1939. In the 1980s, a new terminal was built, which is now used for domestic traffic. In 1999, following privatization, the airport was given the current name Gold Coast Airport.

Today the Gold Coast Airport is connected to various destinations, mainly in the east of Australia, around the South China Sea , Japan and New Zealand. Airlines are z. B. Jetstar Airways , which even have a hub here , as well as AirAsia X and Tiger Airways and other airlines, mostly from the low-cost segment .

The airport identifies itself as a "low-cost airport".
