Cory Monteith
Cory Allan Michael Monteith (born May 11, 1982 in Calgary , Alberta , † July 13, 2013 in Vancouver , British Columbia ) was a Canadian actor and singer . He was best known for his role as Finn Hudson in the American television series Glee .
Life
Cory Monteith grew up in Victoria, British Columbia . He dropped out of school after the ninth grade and never went to high school . Before he became an actor, he worked in Nanaimo , British Columbia, among others for Wal-Mart , as a taxi and school bus driver and as a roofer.
Monteith started his acting career in Vancouver. He took his first role in 2005 in the homoerotic horror film Killer Bash , for which he was discovered by director David DeCoteau . In films he played minor roles a. a. in Final Destination 3 and Whisper . In the mystery series Kyle XY he played the character Charlie Tanner in several episodes . In 2007 he played one of the main characters in the short-lived series Kaya as Gunnar . He also appeared in individual episodes of various series.
In 2009, Monteith was cast for the character of Finn Hudson on the award-winning Fox series Glee . In his audition, he played drums on Tupperware with pencils. During the casting, he sang in front of an audience for the first time and interpreted the song Honesty by Billy Joel .
Monteith was the drummer for the band Bonnie Dune . Most recently he lived in Los Angeles . Since 2012 he was in a relationship with Glee co-star Lea Michele .
On July 13, 2013, Monteith was found dead in his Vancouver hotel room. The autopsy revealed an overdose of heroin and alcohol as the cause of death.
