Coulee Dam is a small town ( Town ) in the counties Douglas , Grant and Okanogan in the State of Washington . The part in Douglas County is part of the Wenatchee - East Wenatchee Metropolitan Statistical Area . As of the 2010 United States Census , Coulee Dam had 1,098 residents.
history
Coulee Dam was established by the US Bureau of Reclamation in 1933 to serve as a base for the construction of the Grand Coulee Dam . The Okanogan County stake was known as Mason City and was the seat of the primary contractor, Consolidated Builders Inc. (CBI) of Oakland, California. The shares in Douglas and Grant Counties were called Engineers Town and were owned by the government. With the foreseeable end of the contract term in 1942, the CBI transferred control of Mason City to the Municipal Division of the Columbia Basin Project . In 1948 Mason City was incorporated into Coulee Dam. The government began selling the properties to the public in 1957, which was completed in 1959. Coulee Dam was officially recognized as a local authority on February 26, 1959 .
Here is the headquarters of the Lake Roosevelt National Recreation Area ; there is also the world's largest artificial sand fill, a 70 m high hill with 9.2 million m³, which was left over from the construction of the dam.

The portion located in Okanogan County lies within the Colville Indian Reservation and forms the southern border of the Okanogan Highlands .
According to the United States Census Bureau , the city has a total area of 2.02 km², of which 1.86 are land and the rest are water.

2010 Census
As of the 2010 census , there were 1,098 residents, 459 households, and 301 families in Coulee Dam. The population density was 588.8 per km ². There were 534 housing units at an average density of 286.4 per km².
The population consisted of 55% whites , 0.5% Afro-Americans , 35.5% Indians , 0.7% Asians , 2.4% from other "races" and 5.9% two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 6.7% of the population.
Of the 459 households, 29.8% were housed by children under the age of 18, 42.9% were run by married couples living together , 15.7% by single mothers and 7% by single fathers; 34.4% were non-families. 30.5% of the households were singles and 12.9% were single people over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.39 and the average family size was 2.93.
The median age in the city was 41.6 years. 24.8% of the population were under 18, 5.7% between 18 and 24, 23.1% between 25 and 44, 28.8% between 45 and 64 and 17.5 years of age or older. 49.9% of the population were men and 50.1% women.
Census 2000
As of the 2000 census , Coulee Dam had 1,044 residents, 448 households, and 305 families. The population density was 592.8 per km ². There were 499 housing units at an average density of 283.3 per km².
The population consisted of 64.56% white , 0.29% African American , 29.12% Indian , 0.48% Asian , 0.57% other "races" and 4.98 % % from two or more "races" . Hispanics or Latinos of "any race" made up 2.78% of the population.
Of the 448 households, 25.7% had children under the age of 18, 52% were run by married couples living together , 11.4% by single mothers; 31.7% were non-families. 27.7% of the households were singles and 13.8% were single persons over 65 years of age. The average household size was 2.32 and the average family size was 2.74 people.
The median age in the city was 44 years. 22.9% of the population were under 18, 7.1% between 18 and 24, 20.7% between 25 and 44, 29% between 45 and 64 and 20.3 65 years or older. There were 93.3 men for every 100 women, and 90.3 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
All information on median income relates to the median. The median household income was US $ 37,391 and that of families was US $ 45,066. Men had a median income of US $ 38,000 versus US $ 22,500 for women. The per capita income was US $ 18,791. About 6.7% of families and 9.8% of the total population lived below the poverty line ; this affected 14.9% of those under 18 and 11% of those over 65.
